Jerry J. Mutz, III, passed away on Friday, May 15, 2026. Born on May 30, 1957.
Jerry completed his studies at St. Joseph Grade School in Joliet in 1971 and graduated from Joliet Catholic High School in 1975. He pursued higher education and continued playing baseball at Lewis University and the College of St. Francis. A highlight of his athletic career was contributing to Lewis University’s NAIA National Championship team.
Jerry built a long, successful career in the automotive industry across several Joliet-area dealerships. He was sociable and widely remembered for his clever stories and impressive memory for small details. Throughout the years he rooted for his favorite teams: the Hilltoppers, the Fighting Irish, the Bears, the Cubs and the Blackhawks. He frequently recalled treasured fishing trips that were shared with his close family.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jerry Mutz, Jr.
Jerry leaves behind his mother, Pat Mutz; sons Jerry IV (Lisa) Mutz and Michael Mutz; daughters, Madeline (Elias) Butler, Elizabeth (Josh) Fereday and Katie Mutz; granddaughter, Lola Butler; sisters, Linda (Jim) Whitgrove, Denise (Rich) Kingston and Becky (Steve) Nahas; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and lifelong friends.
Private services will be held at a later date.
